Political structure of the Municipality

It is the executive organ of the municipality and, within the Municipality of Ticino, is the oldest power, composed of citizens who exercise civil rights. It is a collegial organ called by law to administer the Commune, entitled to take care of the public, taking all measures of its competence to protect the interests of the local community. The Town Hall of Chiasso is composed of 5 Municipals and is presided over by the Mayor, figure that covers not only the role of primus inter pares with mere prerogatives of honor, but it is a charge marked by specific and innumerable skills. After the election of the Mayor for popular scrutiny, at the beginning of each administrative period, the Town Hall, meeting in the constitution session, appoints among its members the Deputy Mayor and establishes the dicasteries attributing them to the individual Municipals, so as to divide the administrative apparatus with the main purpose of facilitating the examination of the objects of its own competence.
