Since its success in 2007, Glarona Jakob Baumgartner's businessman has organized an annual gathering of legendary vintage 8-cylinder Saurer and Bern trucks. Road veterans can be admired at Glarona from 09.00. Afterwards, the old postal cars, auto pumps and trucks will make a journey together through Ricken, Wildhaus, Buchs and Walenstadt. Between 1935 and 1959, Arbon's Adolph Saurer company produced 690 units of the legendary 8-cylinder truck. This truck, available with 160 and 180 CVs, was known at those times as the real class car. Jakob Baumgartner senior, the father of the current owner, was able to withdraw this versatile vehicle and, at the time, more powerful than the canton after a two-year delivery period in Arbon. The purchase price of 116,000 Swiss francs had to be paid a third in advance, a third at the withdrawal and a third after a month. The truck bridge could be replaced with an attachment for the transport of furniture, but in the early days it was mainly used as a tipper with a trailer to an axis. This universal vehicle has been used by the company Baumgartner to build the Walensee road, as a conveyor excavator for the company Tschokke, during the construction of the Limmern dam wall to transport the cement irons 18 meters long from Basel to Linthal, with the Elmer Citro on the old Tremola up to Ticino, but also as snow sweeps, among other things.
